Yesterday's Workshop
McCall and I had a fun day yesterday with eight new Zentangle students. The morning was spent introducing them to Zentangle and learning 10 new tangles. Then in the afternoon McCall demonstrating creating tangles on dark backgrounds using gelly roll pens and pastels. I will try to post some of their beautiful work. I demonstrated using Inktense pencils and water washes and also how to blend colored markers separately and then apple to a tile. An example of each are above and at right . During a previous workshop we worked on fabric with fabric markers and an example of that technique is also shown below.
We hope to schedule another all day workshop in early December, so be sure to let me know if you are interested and which of the first two weekends in December might work best for you.
Happy Tangling,
Terry

Zentangle 101 - January 22nd
I am now happily relocated to Santa Rosa, CA (from San Francisco). For those of you not familiar with the area, Santa Rosa is in Sonoma County, about 60 miles north of San Francisco.....in the wine country. It will be three weeks tomorrow since the move. So there are still quite a few unpacked boxes lurking about. But slowly we are getting it done!
And, I now have a nice location available for workshops, so I am now announcing my first work in Santa Rosa:
Hope to see you there!

Shaded and Watercolored Posey #1
Lots of needlework preparations going on around here for the last six weeks and next Thursday I leave for 10 days to teach same.....in Columbus, Ohio. But upon my return I will be preparing for a Zentangle workshop....which also means more tangles to post!
I realized I had not followed up with shading the Posey #1 I posted on August 9th so I have shaded and posted it here along with a watercolor version using Graphitint pencils. I scanned the original and then placed four of the design on one page of a Word document and printed it out on matte (speckled) cardstock.....a good weight for using a little water. There will be a series of "Poseys" so look for a new one by the end of the year.
There is also a new needlepoint design in the works and I am using several Zentangle patterns as the inspiration for various areas. That is something I will be working on in October and November so I will post some photo updates.
Enjoy your tangles into next time!

Making time to zentangle
Posey #1 |
Today I posting Posey #1. It was drawn on a a "Zentangle square"..........and is not shaded.....yet! I plan to add shading, but also to copy it onto a semi-smooth cardstock and try out some of the new pan pastels as well as watercolor pencils, or Inktense pencils. I'll post the results later.
Wishing everyone a great week!

Adding color to Zentangle
As you probably know, a Zentangle is generally created with a fine black Micron pen and possibly some pencil shading. When something more is added it becomes Zentangle inspired art. I love all the variations. But as I work with color, color, color in my needlework designs, I find it hard to not add color....now and then. So, here are a few I have recently done with colorwash added using Derwent Graphitint Pencils.
Plus a few more "traditional" ones.
Wishing everyone a great July 4th weekend!
Enjoy,
Terry
